Festival Edition 01
Awakenest Festival 2024
26 to 28 January 2024 · Koh Phangan, Thailand
The first Awakenest festival took place across three days in a series of indoor and outdoor spaces. Its programme spanned music, movement, yoga, sound, conversations and creative activity.

Across the programme
The programme named the Circle, Forum, Yoga Hall, Dome, Small Shala, Journest, Healing Huts, and areas for activities and families.
It included movement and yoga sessions, sound practices, music, conversations, creative activity and workshops. The Circle programme also listed a Rong-Ngang traditional southern music performance by Poetry Garden Band.
Across the festival
Movement, yoga, sound and Forum sessions took place in several spaces. People gathered inside the Dome, while routes across the grounds connected the Music Lounge, programme spaces and shared areas.
Community and cultural programme
The Friday Forum programme included a “Save the World” talk by a local school. The wider programme also included cultural music and community-focused subjects.
Matthayom 2 to 3 students and teachers from Koh Phangan Suksa School ran a southern Thai food stall, serving ผัดก๋วยเตี๋ยวกะทิ, a stir-fried noodle dish made with coconut milk.
Matthayom 3 to 5 students from the school also performed Tari Kipas and Nora, trained by their teacher ปิยะนุช พินโท.
Conversations about the island
The Forum programme explored Festival Economy, sustainable tourism, waste, water, food and seasonality, and questions about the island's future.
Practical choices on site
The site included a refill point and labelled waste-sorting stations. Fresh produce, market paths, wayfinding and decoration made with leaves were also part of the setting.
What continued later that year
On 21 June 2024, months after the festival, the Music Lounge hosted an International Day of Yoga gathering that included a Nora performance by ฤทธิเดช หมวดทอง, a teacher from Wat Rat Charoen School. It was an event of its own, and one of the ways the site stayed active between editions.
